The goal of this project is to help Roma students to graduate from secondary school and get ready for successful university entrance exams.
In the school year 2011/2012 we are opening the 9th cycle of the university preparatory courses!
What does the project offer?
Its core activity is the preparatory courses for university entrance exams for Romany secondary school students and graduates. The content of courses depends on areas students are interested in and subjects they want to study at university. As entrance exams differ a lot, every course must reflect their specific needs and requirements. Our regional coordinators meet applicants to discuss their opportunities and help them choose the right university and subject. They assist them with university application forms administration, find the best lecturers and organize course lessons.
The target group will expand and include 2nd year students as well. These extra lessons will motivate students to continue with secondary school studies and reach better results. This part of the project is intended for students form the following regions: Moravskoslezský, Olomoucký, Plzeňský, Ústecký and Středočeský region.
The project also includes extended consultancy and students meetings in Prague. The participants will go through free testing of academic prerequisites and psychological testing. Test results and individual interviews with a psychologists help students make the final decision of the appropriate field of study and type of university. In the last school year, the meeting took place on 14th – 16th January 2011. The next one is scheduled for January 2012 in Prague.
In spring 2011 we also launched an interactive DVD, which includes information necessary for students’ decisions. All information that one would have to search on several website of individual universities is concentrated here; there is a list of all state and private universities, descriptions of selected fields, graduate profiles and lots of other details.
Who can enroll?
The project is organized for Roma students in the 2nd and 3rd year of secondary schools, 4th year students as well as secondary school graduates under 26.
We will help you prepare for the national school-leaving examination!
In compliance with the new legislation, the school-leaving examination consists of two parts – one designed individually by each school and one designed by the Ministry of Education. The exams thus have a common, national part guaranteed by the Ministry and a profile, specialized part, provided by the school. There is a special, comprehensive part of the exam: the Czech language and literature and the foreign language – it is a part of the common, national segment, but its oral part is provided by schools.
There are currently two levels for students to select: an elementary level and an advanced level. Students can make their decisions about levels for each section of the compulsory exams. This year, 19.5 % students failed their national exams. Furthermore, one student in ten was not even allowed to take them, the Ministry informed. The worst results were reported at vocational schools.
Our preparatory courses will help you get ready for both university entrance exams and national school-leaving examinations!
THIS PROJECT IS CO-FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC.

WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE?
It is crucial to start with the right decision: select which university and which subject you actually want to study. It is important to understand what the whole studies require, not only requirements for entrance exams. The right selection is the key, so we offer several forms of help: consultations with regional coordinators, handbooks, meeting for students.
Our courses are opened for secondary school students (2nd year and higher) or graduates under 26.
In the school year 2010/2011 we organized the 8th year of preparations for university entrance exams. The average success rate of our participants is approximately 60 %, which we see as a great achievement! Check the statistics:
