August in The Family Next Door: We have leaflets in six languages, a successful STAND-UP in Telč!
1/9/2022

Although summer is usually a time for vacations and doing nothing, we worked despite the sweltering heat to make this year's Family Next Door as successful as the previous ones.

On August 10, a planned stand-up performance by Jiří Jakima and Nikola Dzokić took place in Telč, which was a success among the audience present.

Preparations are also underway for another stand-up performance in Jihlava. This time, Alisher Nurakhmetov will perform with Jiří Jakim.

Last but not least, we are preparing an autumn meeting of The Family Next Door, which will take place on November 27. We have prepared a graphically attractive project flyer in six language versions so that we can more effectively spread information about the autumn gatherings at the set table among foreigners from third countries. You can also attend the meeting!

How is the meeting designed?

The family decides whether they want to host or not. One of the 30 planned meetings will then take place in the home of the host family. Registered families are connected based on certain criteria (age, profession, job, interests, number and age of children, etc.), this ensures common topics for conversation and a friendly atmosphere. Often the relationships established in this way continue even after the dinner is over.

An assistant is present at every meeting, whose task is not only to mediate communication and supervise the progress of the meeting but also, if necessary, to break through the initial shyness. The project has been contributing to the strengthening of a multicultural environment for many years, and with the help of its original and individual form, it wants to enable and support the establishment of mutual communication between Czech society and foreigners from third countries living in the Czech Republic.

How do I get involved?

The project Family Next Door creates a space for the exchange of cultural experiences, the establishment of new long-term friendships and, above all, the creation of relationships between families from different countries, in the form of joint dining between Czech families and families of foreigners. Foreigners have the opportunity to get to know Czech culture and customs better, which will help them integrate into mainstream society. Czech families get to taste new foods and get to know different cultures, which is priceless these days.

Registered families are matched by project assistants who make decisions based on the age, hobbies, language and place of residence of the participants. In previous years, families from Syria, India, Belarus, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Algeria, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Vietnam, Mongolia, New Zealand and, of course, the Czech Republic have participated.
