July in Family Next Door: We are preparing a STAND-UP show with famous comedians!
An integral part of the Family Next Door project, which proudly received the prestigious SozialMarie award in 2011, are performances by well-known STAND-UP comedians who are foreigners living in the Czech Republic.
This year is no exception, and we are planning several such events for the autumn. The first will take place on August 10th in the town square in Telč, featuring Nikola Dokić and Jiří Jakima.
We are also working on organizing meetings between Czech and foreign families at the same table, which is the main activity of the project.
This year's meetings will take place on November 27th, and you have the opportunity to participate as well.
Czech families or families of foreigners from third countries with legal residency status in the Czech Republic can join the shared dining experience.
How is the meeting structured?
The family decides whether or not they want to be a host. One of the 30 planned meetings will then take place in the host family's home. Registered families are matched based on specific criteria (age, profession, occupation, interests, number and age of children, etc.), which ensures common topics for conversation and a friendly atmosphere. Often, the relationships formed in this way continue long after the dinner ends.
An assistant is present at every meeting, whose role is not only to facilitate communication and oversee the course of the meeting but also to break the ice if necessary. For many years, the project has contributed to strengthening the multicultural environment, and through its original and individual approach, it aims to enable and support the establishment of mutual communication between Czech society and foreigners from third countries living in the Czech Republic.

The Family Next Door project creates a space for exchanging cultural experiences, forming new long-term friendships, and, most importantly, building relationships between families from different countries through shared meals. Foreigners have the opportunity to better understand Czech culture and customs, which helps them integrate into the majority society. Czech families get to taste new foods and learn about different cultures, which is invaluable in today's world.
Registered families are matched by project assistants who make decisions based on the participants' age, hobbies, language, and place of residence. In past years, families from Syria, India, Belarus, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Algeria, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Vietnam, Mongolia, and New Zealand have participated. And, of course, from the Czech Republic.
This activity is carried out as part of a project for the integration of foreigners co-financed by the Ministry of the Interior.
This project is implemented with the financial support of the City of Prague.
