Tuesday at Khamoro: a film about Ilona Ferková and more gypsy jazz

A day full of laughter, stories, and unique music! That’s what Tuesday, May 28th, the third day of Khamoro, will be all about. This time, the program kicks off in the early evening with a screening of a documentary I love to laugh, I love to make things up, featuring our beloved Ilona Ferková as the central protagonist. Afterward, we’ll head back to the Jazz Dock in Smíchov for an amazing ensemble, Quintet of the Hot club de France.

Ilona Ferková is impossible to miss. A woman of great spirit and laughter, she is one of the leading Romani writers. She was introduced to literary work in the 1980s by the founder of Czech Romani studies, Associate Professor Milena Hübschmannová. Today, she publishes primarily with the Kher publishing house. She talks about her life with a laugh in a new documentary film by Slova 21. "I like to make things up, but I mostly write true stories," she says in the film, which was directed by Markéta Oddfish Nešlehová. Want to meet Ilona in person? Starting at 8:00 PM at Jazz Dock, we’re in for more gypsy jazz. Don’t miss this unique blend of classic jazz and traditional Romani music at the concert by Quintet of the Hot Club de France! This new ensemble, inspired by the legendary fathers of gypsy jazz, Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, showcases the musical mastery of musicians from all over the world. The pairing of Israeli guitarist Duved Dunayevsky, considered one of the most authentic successors to Django Reinhardt, and Russian violin virtuoso Daniel Garlicki promises an unprecedented artistic experience! The main duo will be joined at the concert by three other talented musicians: Andrea Soria, Pierre Richeux, and Scott Koehler.
