Family Next Door registration is open! Meet new friends and discover food from around the world

Another year of Family Next Door is here! Across the Czech Republic, dozens of Czech families will sit down at a set table with families of foreigners, even though they have never met before. We have been connecting people of different nationalities, religions, and customs this way for over twenty years. Join us too – sign up now. This year, compared to last year, we are connecting Czech families not only with Ukrainian refugee families but also with other foreigners from so-called third countries. Last year, the project was featured, among others, on the main news broadcast of Czech Television.

When filling out the registration form, you can choose whether you want to be a host family or if you would prefer to visit another family for a shared lunch. Based on your common interests, location, and other preferences, we will select the most suitable family for you and help arrange a meeting place and time. We cover the cost of the food! And how does the lunch itself unfold? That is entirely up to you. However, our assistant will be present at the meeting to help with communication and ensure your unique experience goes smoothly.

"We believe that we will build on the great interest of participants again this year. Family Next Door is a great opportunity to pause for a moment in today's busy world, chat, enjoy good food, and exchange recipes," says project coordinator Ljiljana Batovanja with a smile. Since 2004, approximately 1,800 families have met for a shared lunch, totaling over 5,000 people. "Most of them are still in contact today – even years after their first meeting, and that is exactly what we are aiming for: breaking down prejudices through new friendships," adds Batovanja.

In previous years, in addition to Czech families, families from Syria, India, Belarus, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Algeria, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Vietnam, Mongolia, and even New Zealand have participated in the project.
