The hidden story of Chaplin and a second gypsy jazz concert. The Khamoro festival is in full swing

Tuesday at Khamoro may not start until the evening, but it will definitely be worth it! The main highlight of today's program is the Czech premiere of the documentary film Chaplin: Spirit of the Tramp. Literature and music lovers will also find something to enjoy – the Smíchov Jazz Dock will once again be filled with the sounds of gypsy jazz tonight!

CZECH PREMIERE OF THE CHAPLIN FILM 

Everyone knows him. The little man with the signature bowler hat, mustache, and unmistakable walk made the whole world laugh. But few people know that Charlie Chaplin had Romani roots. That is why the Khamoro festival is presenting the Czech premiere of a film about one of the most iconic figures in film history today. Audiences can come to see the film Chaplin: Spirit of the Tramp at Kino Atlas starting at 6:30 PM.

The film captures a family's search for the Romani roots of the famous actor, director, and screenwriter, whose Tramp character became one of the most iconic symbols of world cinema. The documentary is based on testimonies from members of Chaplin's family, especially his son Michael, and also draws from a unique family archive. Viewers will be introduced to previously unreleased materials and see Chaplin from a new perspective.

TO THE RHYTHM OF THE CIMBALOM AND GYPSY JAZZ

Haven't heard of the work of Michal Taragoš yet? In that case, you will have a unique opportunity to learn more about this brilliant musician at the presentation of the book In the Rhythm of the Cimbalom. It begins at 5:00 PM at the Municipal Library in Smíchov. Taragoš's memories – cheerful, moving, and even those that sting a little – create a mosaic not only of the life of one talented artist but also of an entire generation of Czech-Slovak-Hungarian Roma, whose stories are often missing from school textbooks. Michal Taragoš tells his life story with gentle humor, lightness, and a pinch of nostalgia to his longtime friend, the Slovak director Dana Račková. At the book presentation, these memories will come to life right before your eyes. Actor František Čachotský will lend them his voice, while they are woven together by the melody of the cimbalom. And who better to play its strings than Michal Taragoš himself?

That is all for today's accompanying program, but the day is far from over! This evening at Jazz Dock, we are in for a treat with the phenomenal Italian guitarist Dario Napoli. This musician brings elements of bebop, funk, and modern jazz into traditional gypsy swing, creating a fresh and unexpected sound full of energy! His trio is completed by two phenomenal musicians – Tonino De Sensi on double bass and Benji Winterstein on rhythm guitar, whom music critics consider one of the best players in the world in this genre. Dario and his ensemble have performed at the most prestigious festivals and stages in the world, so naturally, they cannot be missing from the largest Romani festival in the world. Rest assured, this group knows how to get you moving!
