Although summer is usually a time for vacations and taking it easy, we kept working through the sweltering heat to ensure this year's Families Next Door project is as successful as the previous ones.

On August 10, a planned stand-up comedy show featuring Jiří Jakima and Nikola Dzokić took place in Telč and was a hit with the audience.

Another stand-up show is being prepared in Jihlava. This time, Alisher Nurakhmetov will perform alongside Jiří Jakima.

Finally, we are preparing the autumn Families Next Door meetings, which will take place on November 27. We have designed an attractive flyer for the project in six languages to more effectively spread the word among third-country nationals about these autumn gatherings around a shared table. You can take part in the meetings too!

How is the meeting structured?

A family decides whether or not they want to be a host. One of the 30 planned meetings will then take place in the host family's home. Registered families are matched based on specific criteria (age, profession, occupation, interests, number and age of children, etc.), which ensures common topics for conversation and a friendly atmosphere. The relationships formed in this way often continue long after the dinner is over.

An assistant is present at every meeting, tasked not only with facilitating communication and overseeing the event, but also with breaking the ice if necessary. For many years, the project has contributed to strengthening a multicultural environment, and through its original and individual approach, it aims to enable and encourage communication between Czech society and foreigners from third countries living in the Czech Republic.

The Families Next Door project creates a space for sharing cultural experiences, forming new long-term friendships, and, most importantly, building relationships between families from different countries through shared meals between Czech families and foreign families. Foreigners have the opportunity to better understand Czech culture and customs, which helps them integrate into the majority society. Czech families get to taste new foods and learn about different cultures, which is invaluable in today's world.

Registered families are paired by project assistants, who make decisions based on the participants' age, hobbies, language, and place of residence. In past years, families from Syria, India, Belarus, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Algeria, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Vietnam, Mongolia, New Zealand, and, of course, the Czech Republic have participated.

This activity is carried out as part of a project for the integration of foreigners, co-funded by the Ministry of the Interior.

This project is implemented with the financial support of the City of Prague.
