September in Family Next Door: Leaflet distribution and a successful stand-up comedy show in Jihlava!

With the start of the school year, we are intensifying preparations for this year's Families Next Door meetings. The November date is approaching, so we have been preparing a small media campaign that we will launch next month.

To raise awareness about our project, we have distributed leaflets to all regions, which we prepared last month in six languages.

On September 10, another in the series of Stand Up performances, which are an integral part of the Families Next Door project, took place in the Jihlava town square. This time, the audience was entertained by the well-known comedy duo Jiří Jakima and Alisher Nurakhmetov.

The Families Next Door project creates a space for cultural exchange, building new long-term friendships, and, most importantly, fostering relationships between families from different countries through shared meals between Czech families and immigrant families. Foreigners have the opportunity to better understand Czech culture and customs, which helps them integrate into the majority society. Czech families get to taste new foods and learn about different cultures, which is invaluable in this day and age. Registered families are paired by project assistants who make decisions based on the participants' age, hobbies, language, and place of residence. In previous years, families from Syria, India, Belarus, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Algeria, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Vietnam, Mongolia, or New Zealand, and of course from the Czech Republic, have participated.

This year's meeting of Czech families and families of immigrants from third countries at a set table will take place on Sunday, November 27. If you are interested in participating, you can read everything you need to know below.

How is the meeting structured?

A family decides whether or not they want to be a host. One of the 30 planned meetings will then take place in the host family's home. Registered families are matched based on specific criteria (age, profession, occupation, interests, number and age of children, etc.), which ensures common topics for conversation and a friendly atmosphere. Often, the relationships formed in this way continue even after the dinner ends.

An assistant is present at each meeting, whose role is not only to facilitate communication and oversee the meeting but also to break the ice if necessary. For many years, the project has contributed to strengthening a multicultural environment, and through its original and individual approach, it aims to enable and support the establishment of mutual communication between Czech society and immigrants from third countries living in the Czech Republic.
