Khamoro Shares Experience

Every cultural event is built on the hard work and passion of those who organize it. Over more than 25 years of organizing the Khamoro World Roma Festival, we have gained a wealth of experience—and now we are passing it on. We provide young Roma with not only knowledge but also hands-on experience in cultural management, so that one day they can confidently and professionally execute their own cultural projects.

• The program is designed for young Roma between 20 and 30 years oldwho are involved in artistic and cultural activities.

• Training takes place throughout the year, but its highlight is the Khamoro festival, where participants get directly involved in the organization—helping with concert production, preparing the children's day, and taking part in the spectacular parade through the center of Prague.

• In 2024, we trained 20 graduates from various regions of the Czech Republic.

Theory or practice?

What is better—to just talk about organizing cultural events first, or to dive straight into the action and help produce a festival? For us, the second approach has clearly proven its worth. Young Roma first get involved in the preparations for the Khamoro festival, and only then do we break down the individual aspects of organization together. This approach not only maintains their enthusiasm, but also minimizes the risk of them dropping out of the program, while helping them better understand the theory thanks to direct practical experience.

Cultural management

What exactly do we pass on? We teach how to create an attractive program, build a dramaturgy, and select the right artists. We show how to secure funding – whether through grants, subsidies, or private donors. We also focus on effective communication, from social media to media relations. And last but not least, we cover every production detail, so our participants know exactly what to watch out for when organizing an event.

Events by our graduates

It starts with our training. We motivate participants to start organizing cultural events themselves, and we even provide financial support to help them do so. One such event in 2024 was Having a Dream, which was organized by Nikolas Petik in Pardubice on April 24th.

This one-day program was carefully designed to show Romani children that dreams are achievable – through the stories of 11 successful Roma, who had to overcome many obstacles on their path to education. The event attracted 800 visitors from both the Romani and majority communities, becoming a powerful motivational experience for everyone present. The event was held under the auspices of Pavel Šotola, Deputy Governor of the Pardubice Region, and Lucie Fuková, Government Commissioner for Romani Minority Affairs.
