Project Praha společně 2025 (Prague Together 2025) is coming to an end. What did it bring to Prague residents and foreigners alike?

Prague has long ceased to be a city only for Czechs. Today, approximately a quarter of its residents are foreigners who often struggle with a language barrier. The Prague Together 2025 project was created specifically for them, not only to foster understanding between Czechs and foreigners but also to actively involve foreigners in community events where they could get to know each other better.

Language courses were held throughout Prague in 2025. "We are very happy that 75 people successfully completed our five courses, taking another step forward in their integration into Czech society," says coordinator Yuliia from Slovo 21. Slovo 21 has been dedicated to teaching Czech (and more) in Prague since 2022, when the Russian aggression in Ukraine began.

Interpreting as a key to understanding

In Prague, Slovo 21 created a network of Ukrainian and Russian interpreters who helped facilitate communication in more than 252 situations – from government offices and healthcare to everyday practical tasks.

"The interpreter's help was essential for me in practically every area. When applying for temporary protection, I wouldn't have been able to resolve some of the questions without her. I also turned to the interpreter in other situations, for example, when I needed to see a doctor or get advice regarding the labor office," says Naďa from Ukraine, who only arrived in the Czech Republic in September 2025.

Community celebration

However, the project was not just about language learning and interpreting. Its highlight was participation in the traditional Prague neighborhood festival, Zažít město jinak (Experience the City Differently). At the event on Americká Street, which was attended by 1,000 people, we presented our long-running project, Family Next Door – a shared lunch between Czech and foreign families. An improvised "living room" was set up right on the street, where guests brought their traditional specialties. Aromas mingled, plates disappeared, and people who had never met before were soon deep in conversation.

In that moment, everyone was truly living in Prague together.
